The hotel industry is stuck in a well-worn rut, and I don’t think that hoteliers realise this. New technology, virtual this and that, new beds, new room designs, new architecture, new spa treatments, etc., will not lift the industry out of the rut and transform the hospitality experience.
Why? Because guests are human beings, and human beings are, in essence, spiritual beings. Material things don’t enable people to experience peace in their hearts or make people truly happy. What will is something that the current generation of hoteliers just cannot accept.
There is a path that the hotel industry has ignored, if not refused to explore, and that is a heart-based guest experience concept based on two essential parts of being human, namely, energy and spirituality. The pervasive SOP-Customer Satisfaction excludes them. Only this path will transform the spirit of hospitality. No other path can or will ever revolutionise the spirit of hospitality because the essence of hospitality is energetic and spiritual and rooted in unconditional love, compassion, loving-kindness (metta), and heartwarming care.
The knowledge about human energy, particularly how we can influence our environment and people with our thoughts, feelings, and emotions, is ancient, as is how people can change the energy they radiate. The photograph shows what we can all do to change the growth of plants. Just imagine what hotels would be like if they developed the spiritual capacity of their employees, and taught them how to change their energy, and ways to change the energetic feeling of a guest room or area.
I left the hotel industry during Covid and now I develop 100% organic cocoa plantations in Africa. Uneducated farmers in Africa can understand a heart-based, energetic, and spiritual approach to farming because they see what happens to their crops, and they make more money. I don’t understand why highly educated hoteliers can’t see its relevance to hospitality. Don’t they want to increase their revenue?
